Underground Tracer Wire

Underground tracer wire, also called locating wire, is used extensively to trace and locate underground pipe systems in an accurate manner. The wire is placed alongside pipes during installation in order to leave a marker that helps locate them for safe excavation operations at a later date. The underground tracer wire we offer at EGW Water & Plumbing is available in sizes 18 through 10 AWG and a variety of colors, including green, blue, and yellow.

Underground Tracer Wire Applications

Modern pipe installation often involves the use of non-metallic piping materials, making them difficult to locate using magnetic resonance. By installing underground tracer wire, the work environment is made safer for excavators and property owners when future digging operations are required. Tracer wire is commonly used in various utility industries such as water, sewer, gas, and fiber optics. This wire can also be used in irrigation systems, golf course sprinkler systems, and directional drilling applications.

Our Underground Tracer Wire Selection

We offer flexible tracer wire manufactured from solid copper clad steel. As a PE insulated conductor, this wire is ideal for detecting buried facilities. It is UL rated and designed to perform at temperatures between -20°C to 80°C. It has an operating voltage of 30V or 600V depending on the specific product. The breakout loads and tensile strengths of the tracer wires also vary based on product and size.
