Natural Gas Risers

Natural Gas Risers

Natural gas risers bring buried gas pipes above ground to allow access to the gas flowing through the pipe system. When the natural gas riser comes out of the ground, a valve is usually threaded onto it to control the flow of gas. This valve is typically located just before a gas regulator and/or gas meter of some kind.

In situations where gas lines from the meter are run to other structures or appliances, a natural gas riser will be used to bring the pipe system above ground to feed other natural gas using appliances, such as pool heaters, fire pits, grills, furnaces or boilers.

At EGW Water & Plumbing, we supply natural gas risers in size ranges from ½” to 4” piping and they are manufactured in various configurations, types and end connections. We supply both anodeless and compression risers commonly used in natural gas systems.

Anodeless Natural Gas Risers

Anodeless risers are constructed of an epoxy coated exterior steel casing that protects the polyethylene pipe running through it. The poly pipe extends past the casing (below ground) so it can be joined to the poly piping system. An anode is not recommended for this riser because the steel pipe is not subject to gas pressure.

Compression Natural Gas Risers

Compression risers are constructed of steel pipe with an epoxy coating for protection from corrosion. The below ground end of the riser has a compression fitting for connection to the piping system. It is recommended that an anode is attached to this riser. Compression risers are an economical and easily installed alternative.
